Over a career of more than 40 years, the people who have helped me in various ways are too numerous to list. Any such list would certainly omit many to whom I owe a debt of gratitude. I must, however, thank my wife and long-term colleague, Nancy Wallace, who edited many of the papers collected here and provided invaluable research support, as well as the love and kindness that has carried me this far.
