Plant Detectives Manual: a research-led approach for teaching plant science
The publication of this Manual was funded by an eTEXT Grant Scheme from The Australian National University (ANU). We thank all the teaching staff and students at the Research School of Biology, ANU, who helped in the developing this Manual over the years. In particular, we appreciate the input from Professors Susanne von Caemmerer and Marilyn Ball for their contributions as lecturers and to the practical session. Dr Elizabeth Beckman held regular feedback sessions with students and introduced pedagogic principles we applied during the practical. Dr Terry Neeman provided expertise in the statistical analysis. Dr Amy Davidson is acknowledged for her efforts to help establishing the class resources and her ideas for quiz design and implementation. We are also thankful to Dr Verónica Albrecht for convening the class and commenting on the Manual drafts. This Manual was also highly improved by the revision of earlier versions by former students Rodney Eyles, John Rivers, Estee Tee, Nadiatul Mohd Radzman and Christina Delay. Erin Walsh and Christina Delay provided detailed instructions on how to analyse images using ImageJ and Photoshop, respectively, and Nadiatul Mohd Radzman also contributed with the “Before the practical component” session. We also thank all the peer mentors and students over the years for their hard work and the invaluable feedback they provide.
