About the Author

David Connery conducted the research for this book while completing his Doctor of Philosophy at the Australian National University’s Strategic and Defence Studies Centre. Prior to this, he served in the Australian Army in regimental and staff postings including command of an air defence battery and officer training regiment, postings to Army Headquarters and Strategic Policy Division, and an appointment at the Office of National Assessments. His other published works include essays and monographs on future military capability, Australian national security planning, and Southeast Asian politics.
