About the author

John Power holds the degrees of BA (Hons) University of Melbourne; and AM and PhD (Harvard University). He has held a variety of academic positions at the Universities of Melbourne and Sydney, the Canberra College of Advanced Education, the Australian National University, RMIT, Canberra and Victoria Universities. He has also held leadership positions in the Institute of Public Administration, the Research Committee of the Structure and Organization of Government Research Committee of the International Political Science Association, and the Victorian Local Governance Association. His most recent major publication was the 2007 volume co-authored with John Halligan and Robin Miller and published by Melbourne University Press – Parliament in the Twenty-first Century – which won the 2007 Richard Baker prize for the work that best promoted ‘understanding of the Senate and its work’.
